Older platformers ideas WERE experimental, STILL ARE FRESH/UNIQUE in the genre, no one wants to copy them, expand on them, make their own mechanics like them. Insomniac just pissing on the floor with Rift Apart over Crack in Time’s built up dramatic change of the formula & pathetic rift feature that Crack built up as a start on an HDD. Many that the Indies even are inspired by all feel bland, & why because the level design is eh, the movesets are pathetic & to be honest they don’t have the talent & their inspiration is just weak. Is it good with cameos yes (not a graveyard indeed), is it good with core mechanics IT OFFERS yes, level design eh the themes are generic. Not a lot of games to compete with in that field, but I’m sure it’s great.

The fact things are so simple these days that that’s amazing because realism/simplicity of using things. @Quintumply Are the secret stages/hidden levels required to get the platinum? I’m indebted to you for pulling me back into the world of platformers. Thus, naturally, RPG fans would’ve settled with any of these games clinching the GOTY. However, to everyone’s surprise, our adorable and bouncy bot jumped all the way up and cleared those hardcore RPG game’s levels to grab the “Game of the Year” award at The Game Awards 2024 hosted by Geoff Keighley.

It came pre-installed on the PlayStation 5 when it went on sale in 2020. It was easily one of the best games available on the system at launch. To this day, its creative use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers showcase what the controller can do better than pretty much any other game. Ever since it was first formed within Sony’s now-defunct Japan Studio, Team Asobi has put out one high quality game after another.
The image quality is superb, showing off the vibrant and detailed worlds wonderfully. While it doesn’t have the graphical heft of other first-party titles, it’s incredibly visually pleasing thanks to clean, consistent art direction. On top of that is silky smooth 60 frames-per-second performance, with not one hitch spotted in all our time playing.

@MrMeeeseeeks Many of them are from the defunct Japan Studio that was shut down by Sony in 2021. Those devs are also real gamers with passion and vision who made tons of classic and unique games back then. I am very happy to see Astro Bot is such a polished 3D platformer.
The Playroom Vr
It serves as both a celebration and an advertisement of the fun that Sony Interactive Entertainment offers. The number of references to games released over the years is overwhelming. At times, it’s so extensive that, even as a Sony fan, I wasn’t able to recognize all the brands and references.
To gather console components and rescue our robo-friends, we must unlock specific galaxies and then the planets within them. Typically, when we land on a planet, we are provided with a tool that introduces new gameplay mechanics, offering fresh ways to complete each level. They add variety, keeping the game engaging and far from boring.
And it’s the same in terms of level design as well, just a huge level of variety that means certain motifs and mechanics are explored only once or twice. In my opinion, the variety and constant new ideas is a big part of what makes this game great, but it sounds as though that might not align with your taste. If you liked Playroom overall, though, you’ll definitely like this. I read the review, not worried about spoilers in a platformer, and I’m wondering how many of the different one off play mechanics felt gimmicky? I really like platforming but going back to Playroom I really hate that climbing gyro mechanic, doesn’t feel fluid or natural at all.
